Richard Barbacki - PartnerRichard Barbacki was born in Stafford, England, in 1949 and has lived in Montréal since 1952. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) in 1971 and his Bachelor of Civil Law in 1978, both from McGill University. He was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1979 and has been a partner of this firm since 1982. Professionally, Mr. Barbacki is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Financial Planners Association. He has delivered papers at meetings of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Fiscal and Financial Planning Association (1986, 1990, 1991 and 2001) and was a frequent lecturer on tax issues for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants(1979-82). His publications include "Use it or lose it - the $400,000 Capital Gains Exemption" in C.A. Magazine (1989), "The Human Side of Estate Planning" Financial Post (1990) and articles on the use of discretionary family trusts (1993) and seizability of RRSPs (2003) in the Montreal Business Magazine. Mr. Barbacki currently enjoys the "av" (highest) rating of Martindale-Hubbell. In his spare time, Richard is a keen salmon fisherman and enthusiastic soccer dad. Mr. Barbacki’s current area of practice focuses on taxation law with strong commercial and planning elements. The typical client is the owner of a small to medium business and/or a high net worth individual. Mr. Barbacki also serves as a trustee of a number of trusts and on the Boards of a number of Canadian corporations. Mr. Barbacki is fluent in English and French and he also speaks Polish. |
